Hello, I am Amanda Jacobsen, a sixth generation Californian, and Senior at San Jose State University. Next spring I will graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Child and Adolescent Development and plan to utilize my education in both the classroom and the riding arena, molding future generations of Californians. At 21 years old, I am a Hollister ranch raised cowgirl who is honored to be representing the Bakersfield Stampede Days rodeo. When I am not traveling to a rodeo, you can find me out in the barn tending to my six horses, or playing with her families three solid black German Shepherds. As an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority, I participate in many philanthropic activities.

I am thrilled to have the honor to represent "The Biggest Little Rodeo" as Miss Stampede Days 2009. Traveling with the Sheriff Posse this year promoting the rodeo and western way of life will be tons of fun. Although I am not a resident of Bakersfield it is quickly becoming my second home. The residents of Kern County are truly a heart warming group. I look forward to the year's travel as I promote Stampede Days throughout the State of California at various rodeos, parades, and community events. I am a firm believer in "Dreaming Big, because sometimes even big dreams come true". This year I will share this philosophy with everyone during my reign, encouraging all to reach beyond the stars that can be easily seen, to the galaxies that await them.

Thank you to the Sheriff Posse and the Queen committee for giving me this opportunity to represent the people of Bakersfield and for allowing me into such an community minded group of individuals.

Remember Always Dream Big!
Sincerely,
Amanda Jacobsen

Hello, my name is Natalie Martens and I am the 2009 Bakersfield Stampede Days Rodeo Junior Queen. I am 18 years old and I was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. I am a 2009 graduate from Centennial High School and I will be attending California State University of Bakersfield in the fall to get my nursing degree.

I love sports and any activity that includes the outdoors. I have played soccer since I was five years old and played a couple years in high school. I also played softball two years in high school and was a varsity cheerleader my senior year for Centennial High School. In the winter I enjoy going to the mountains and snowboarding and in the summer to the lake and wakeboarding. But my true hobby is on horseback.

At the age of 13, my family bought horses and I began riding. I compete in Gymkhana in the AAA class and hope to run barrels at rodeos in the future. This is my first Queen title and I am honored to be representing Bakersfield for the rodeo community. Every moment I spend with my Queen, Amanda, and Princess, Shelby, I love it and I will never forget it. All of the guys on the Sheriffs Posse are amazing and they take care of us girls very well.

Traveling around California, I am meeting so many new people and making friends along the way. I know that I am going to have a blast the rest of the year with my second family representing the wonderful community of Bakersfield! Thank you for all of your support!

2009 Stampede Days Rodeo Jr. Queen

Wow, when I heard the announcer say "2009 Stampede Days Rodeo Princess is Shelby Newman" I knew that my childhood dream had come true. I was three years old when I saw my first Rodeo Queen. She was beautiful, smart, talented and boy could she handle that horse. I knew then that I wanted to be a rodeo queen. So I practiced talking to people, smiling and especially, the most fun part of all, riding my horse.

I am 14 years old and I have lived in Tehachapi all my life. I spend most of my time working with my horses, either riding, training my 3 year old Haflinger, or cleaning the barn. My two brothers also help with the last part. I am now attending Tehachapi High School as a freshman which I am really enjoying. Besides horses and school I love to dance which I have been doing for 10 years.

Now I have the great honor of representing the Kern County Sheriff’s Mounted Posss as their Princess along with Natalie the Jr. Queen and Amanda the Queen. The gentleman of the posse and my sister queens are already enjoying our year. I am looking forward to all the great adventures that we are going to have together.

Thank you for all of your support,
Shelby Newman
